Artdaily Announces the Winner of The UOVO Prize

July 10, 2019

Brooklyn-based photographer John Edmonds has been awarded the first ever UOVO Prize. We developed this award was to help promote an emerging artist’s career in the Brooklyn neighborhoods as our new facility is set to open in Bushwick in fall 2019. Edmonds will have a solo exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum as well as a 50 x 50 ft installation on the facade of UOVO:Brooklyn. “Best known for his sensitive depictions of young Black men, Edmonds uses photography and video to create sumptuous portraits and still lifes that challenge art historical precedents and center Black queer desire.” Edmonds earned his M.F.A. in Photography from Yale University and his B.F.A. at the Corcoran School of the Arts and Design.
