The Brooklyn Museum has awarded John Edmonds the inaugural UOVO Prize which includes a large-scale public art installation at UOVO’s forthcoming Bushwick storage facility. The Brooklyn based photographer will also receive a solo exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum next year. “Edmonds is best known for his stylized studio portraits of young black people and still lifes that look to challenge and upend the traditional art historical canon by centering black and queer folk.” He hopes that through this exhibit and installation that he will be able to engage with the relationship between private and public perceptions on a larger scale and.
